Over 110 Arrested in West Bengal’s Murshidabad Amid Violent Protests Over Waqf Act

Overview

At least three people died, and over ten were injured. A teenage boy in Suti suffered injuries due to alleged police firing and was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata.

Law Enforcement Actions

The West Bengal Police arrested over 110 individuals, with 70 from Suti and 41 from Samserganj. Section 144 was enforced, and internet services were suspended to prevent misinformation and further escalation.

Political Reactions

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned the state government's response, labeling the unrest as premeditated violence. Suvendu Adhikari demanded central intervention, stating that the state had failed to maintain law and order.

Government Measures

The Calcutta High Court ordered deployment of central forces to restore peace. Additional security personnel were dispatched, and raids were conducted in multiple districts to arrest those involved in the violence.
